Iskra Lawrence reveals partner Philip Payne is already talking to their young son about race as she pays tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Day

People all over the world are paying tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Day: a federal holiday in the United States that marks the birthday of the civil rights icon.

In honor of MLK Day, British model Iskra Lawrence posted photos of herself with partner Philip Payne and their nine-month-old biracial son.

Along with the adorable family snaps, she shared their belief that — it’s never too early to talk about race with your children.

The couple flashed big glowing smiles as they stood in front of a colorful mural, snuggled up with their bundle of joy, just feet from a street.

‘The other day I snuck into our nursery to listen to @philipapayne speak to our son about race, his heritage and how we want him to be proud of who his, it was so moving,’ Lawrence, 30, began in the caption with obvious emotion.

‘I’m so proud of the father you are @philipapayne and honoured to learn from you day by day,’ she proudly confessed to her 4.6. million Instagram fans and followers.

‘It is never too early to start having these conversations and I pray they never stop until just like MLK said that our children are judged for the content of their character, not the colour of their skin.

Lawrence, who’s an ambassador for body positivity retail brand Aerie, reposted one of the photos on her Instagram Story with another tribute to MLK Day; only this time she thanked Dr. King and the countless others who put their lives on the line and paved the road towards equality for all.

‘Thank you MLK for all you fought for and for the many Black people who lost their lives to fight for a better future,’ she wrote before sharing how the sacrifice of their predecessors helped make their relationship possible.

‘Me and P often talk about how we wouldn’t have been able to be with each other and create our family if it hadn’t been for those brave souls and we are forever grateful and will continue to do the work and honour your your legacy.’

She ended by announcing that they ‘are already actively teaching our son this too.’
