He’s a good sport! Cody Simpson cheers on the Australian swim team from his couch as they win gold in Tokyo – after his own Olympic dreams were dashed

Cody Simpson narrowly missed out on a chance to swim at the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year.

But that certainly didn’t dampen the 24-year-old’s spirits as he cheered on the Australian women’s freestyle relay team from his couch on Sunday.

Posting to Instagram, Cody uploaded a series of clips of himself barracking for his homeland team as they won gold.

Cody missed out on a place at this year’s Tokyo Olympics at the Australian Olympic Trials in June.

The young star, who made a bold charge at Olympic glory after many years away from the sport, placed last in the men’s 100-metre butterfly final.

After the race, Cody vowed in an Instagram post to ‘come back stronger next year’.

He also stated his intentions to aim for a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

‘What an experience racing at my first Australian Olympic Trials. To make a final was our goal this year and with less than a year of training we did just that,’ he wrote.

‘I’ve come so much further than I expected to this year and to be racing the best in the country already is a privilege.’
