This is the moment a ‘muppet’ driver was left red-faced after his neon Nissan supercar had to be towed from a beach after getting stuck in the sand.

The ‘show-off’ driver had to call in a friend’s 4×4 to help free the garish yellow vehicle at Stonehaven harbour in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on Friday night.

In footage shared online, the owner can be seen attaching a rope tied to the front of the black SUV to the back of his £40,000 Nissan 350Z.

As a crowd gathers on the nearby promenade to film the moment, the black car, reversing up a slope, then attempts to yank the smaller car out of the sand three times, but fails.

Onlookers can be heard laughing and jeering as the pair repeatedly fail to unstick the supercar.

One spectator can be heard shouting: ‘What an idiot. Aye, f***ing showing off and getting stuck in the sand. Not so cool now pal.’

It is then that a nearby spectator can be seen running over to help the men by giving the souped-up car a push from the front, before failing face first into the sand – causing the crowd to erupt with laughter.

However his push may have done the trick, as immediately afterwards the 4×4 sharply reverses and frees the Nissan.

Sharing the clip on Facebook, spectator Carlo Williams joked: ‘Oh the clowns are in town.’

His friend then said: ‘Not even the first time this has happened either… bunch of muppets,’ to which he replied: ‘Nope, still have all the videos from last year.’

The clip has racked up more than 78,000 views since it was posted last night and has been shared more than 2,300 times.

One social media user commented: ‘Clearly wasn’t a good idea and a show off move driving onto the sand, but wanna say well done to the guy at the end who helped.’

Another added: ‘What a complete muppet.’

Meanwhile, a third quipped: ‘If he doesn’t hurry up that will be a yellow submarine.’

The incident came amid soaring temperatures in Scotland, with the day before having been the hottest of the year so far.

The highest temperature in Scotland on Thursday was 84.7F (29.3C), recorded at Threave.

The country has also been experiencing overnight temperatures of 61F (16C), the same as its average day time temperature for this time of year.
