Instagram bans Love Island star from using the ‘sponsored content’ tag

Too hot to be an influencer? Instagram BANS Love Island star from using the ‘sponsored content’ tag for breaking website rules with her racy photos

Instagram has banned a Love Island Australia star from using the sponsored content tag because her account allegedly doesn’t follow the platform’s ‘eligibility standards’.

The sponsored content tag appears on Instagram posts below the user’s handle, and allows influencers to clearly disclose when their posts are advertisements.

But Phoebe Thompson is unable to use the tag in her brand partnerships because the Facebook-owned social media giant believes she’s broken too many rules.

She shared a screenshot on Thursday of an alert she’d received telling her her recent branded post went ‘against our Community Guidelines’ and had been taken down.

‘Ummm are you joking @instagram?’ she captioned it.

Another automated message from Instagram told Phoebe, 30, she was no longer ‘eligible to use the branded content tag on your posts and stories’.

It continued: ‘As part of our effort to make Instagram safe and welcoming for everyone, accounts that use our branded content tools must follow our Eligibility Standards.’

The reality star is unable to appeal Instagram’s decision because she is already waiting for a previous review request to be assessed.

While it’s unclear what Phoebe did to violate Instagram’s Community Guidelines, she likely received complaints over her suggestive photos and videos.

Instagram is known for its conservative stance on female nudity.

Visible or partially visible nipples can result in a ban, but even user complaints about lingerie, swimwear or ‘sideboob’ photos are known to be upheld.

Phoebe launched her own subscription-based adult website earlier this year, where she doesn’t have to worry about Instagram censorship.
