And sales are set to boom in the coming weeks, according to leading make-up brand No 7.

Flying off the shelves: There was a 61 per cent surge in the number of lipsticks sold between April and June compared with the first quarter

There was a 61 per cent surge in the number of lipsticks sold between April and June compared with the first quarter, it said. This coincided with the gradual lifting of lockdown.

But companies are preparing for sales to jump even more as night clubs and workplaces reopen once England relaxes restrictions around mask-wearing today. Bold, vibrant coloured-lipsticks have been among the top sellers so far.

Grace Vernon, of No 7 Beauty Company, said: ‘We are expecting to see a lipstick and lip gloss boom.

‘Women are relishing the fact that they can finally coat their lips without worrying it has smudged all over their face and on to the lining of their masks.’
