Shailene Woodley says she and Aaron Rodgers waited ‘months and months’ to announce their engagement

Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers didn’t announce their engagement until ‘months and months’ after it happened.

The Big Little Lies actress, 29, explained why she and her NFL quarterback fiancé, 37, tried to keep the news private for as long as possible while opening up to The Hollywood Reporter.

Woodley said she and Rodgers hoped to ‘live in’ their ‘little bubble’ for as long as possible and only went public so they could be the first to reveal the big news themselves.

Their ‘little bubble’: Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers didn’t announce their engagement until ‘months and months’ after it happened

‘When we announced that we were engaged, we wanted to do that only because we didn’t want someone else to do it before we did,’ she told THR of the big reveal, which happened while Aaron was accepting his MVP award in February.

‘And we didn’t do it for months and months after we had become engaged.’

Even after sharing the news, the couple continued to be coy about their romance.

Shailene said: ‘The reaction to it was really a lot, and so we were like, “Let’s just politely decline [to talk about the relationship] for a little while and live in our little bubble.”

Aaron called their engagement the ‘best thing that’s happened to me’ during an Instagram Live chat with Zenith Watches CEO Julien Tornare in March.

The professional football player discussed his strengths in the last year as he recovers during the off-season and boasted about his newly engaged status.

‘I’m recently engaged, so been enjoying that part of my life,’ Rodgers said. ‘Obviously that’s the best thing that’s happened to me in the last year.’

It was the first time the Green Bay Packers quarterback has addressed his relationship since announcing his surprise engagement while accepting the MVP award during the NFL Honors in February.

‘It’s an honor to win this award for the third time,’ he said. ‘2020 was definitely a crazy year filled with lots of change and growth, some amazing memorable moments.

‘180 straight days of having my nose hair scraped, playing for very little fans or no stands the entire season,’ he said before adding: ‘I got engaged.’

While chatting with Tornare, he said the ‘next great challenge will be being a father,’ adding that he’s ‘in the age group where a lot of my close friends from high school and college are fathers now and have families of their own.’

Rodgers clarified ‘maybe not in the immediate future but definitely something I look forward to, it’s gonna be a really fun challenge.’
