The Project hosts mock Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg over viral video

‘So out of touch he surfs above the water’: The Project hosts mock Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg over viral video of him hydrofoiling while holding an American flag

Mark Zuckerberg has gone viral over a video in which he rides above the water on an electronic surfboard while holding an American flag.

The clip, shared to the Facebook CEO’s Instagram account on July 4, is set to the tune of John Denver’s hit song Take Me Home, Country Roads.

And the hosts of Australian TV show The Project got a good giggle at his expense on Monday.

Carrie Bickmore questioned the validity of the video, saying, ‘It doesn’t look real’.

Steve Price chimed in: ‘Are we cringing about the song or the surf? The whole thing looks ridiculous’.

Referring to Facebook’s origins, Peter Helliar added: ‘Its not the most embarrassing thing he has done, he had a website that ranked women!’

Carrie replied: ‘It is quite amusing. Billionaires, the fact that they really can do whatever they want’.

‘I think there is something about that and the bobbing up and down and the whole thing that I think, I don’t know, I think it raises the bar …’ Carrie then replied.

‘If it was a normal American, dude, you would be fine with it?’ Peter asked, to which Carrie answered, ‘I reckon’.

Peter finished the segment by quipping: ‘He’s so out of touch he actually surfs above the water’.

Zuckerberg, who is worth about $128 billion, has often been photographed in meme-worthy situations.

The Independence Day post alone has been watched nearly 470,000 times within three hours of having been posted.

‘Happy July 4th!’ Zuckerberg, 37, wrote in the caption.

The just over one-minute video has been mocked by some social media users while others criticised the billionaire for an apparent publicity stunt.
