George and Amal Clooney’s hopes of enjoying a blissful summer splashing about in the cool waters of Lake Como have suffered a blow after officials raised the red flag because of the dirty water at their local beach.
Riva del Tenciu, just a stone’s throw away from the family’s Italian hideaway in the village of Laglio, is off-limits to public swimming.
George and Amal are believed to have returned with their four-year-old twins Ella and Alexander to their 25-room bolthole last month. I do hope they have a decent-sized pool to use instead…

If you hear squawking from Zac Goldsmith’s garden, it’s not the Environment Minister squabbling with heiress wife Alice Rothschild – it’s the sound of an orphaned jackdaw Zac has rescued.
Now that the bird, called Gilly, is in rude health, Zac, 46, has adopted it and built an aviary in the grounds of his house in Richmond, South-West London.
He tells me: ‘She spends about half her time out and about, and the rest either in the house or in the aviary I built for her.’ Zac is also teaching Gilly to speak. ‘Jackdaws are good mimics – she amazes me every day,’ he adds.
