DIY fan reveals how she gave her drab UPVC windows a sleek new look for just £23

A DIY fan has revealed how she gave her old wooden windows a sleek new makeover for just £23, and social media users can’t get over the difference.

A renovation enthusiast who goes only by her first name, Kelly, believed to be from the UK, shares tips on her Instagram page @wemadethisplace and showed her 1,225 followers her impressive purse-friendly transformation.

Using some Zinsser exterior paint, Kelly got her UPVC windows looking as good as new, and added that neighbours have commented on their upgraded appearance.

The entire process cost a little over £20, as all she needed was some paint – stressing that no sanding was required beforehand.

Kelly began by washing her windows before taking care to tape along the edge of the frame to ensure no paint made its way onto the glass.

She then got to work on the frames, and advised that for a bright white look you need to add two or three coats.

On her how-to video, she explained: ‘Cheapest and easiest UPVC window upgrade evaer

‘Really happy with the finish and very impressed with @zinsser_uk exterior paint. Neighbours have been commenting on the “new windows”.’

Her followers were quick to share their appreciation for the final result, with one commenting: ‘They really do look like new windows.’

Another said: ‘Really tempted to this to ours! We plan to get ours replaced but many other things on the to do list first. Have you painted this inside at all?’

Kelly was quick to offer some advice for the windows, revealing the insides of her’s were ‘already white’.

A third asked if she’d painted over the black rubber seal on the windows, as many seemed keen to revamp the outside of their homes.

They asked: ‘Did you paint over the black rubber seal? I did mine but not the seal as I was scared it would crack but … it was a nightmare to avoid painting it.’

‘No I left the rubber seal, it would be black on new white windows and it looks fine I think,’ Kelly replied.

The DIY fan recently shared a video showing followers how to do their own fencing – which cost under £400.

Ripping out her old fencing, Kelly advised users to dig large holes that were two foot deep before pouring cement.

She then checks the posts are level and runs a wire along the top before slotting the rest of the panels along.

Fans of her page were left impressed by the fence, as one wrote: ‘They look so good!!’ and another said: ‘Smashing it as always.’
