Val Kilmer documentary about the life and career of the famous method actor is coming to Amazon


He is most famous for portraying Doors frontman Jim Morrison along with a smattering of other notable roles. 

And Val Kilmer will soon be the subject of a buzzworthy new documentary, appropriately titled Val. 

The documentary is currently in the works at Amazon Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kilmer, now 61, has a Tinseltown reputation precedes him – he is a noted method actor with mercurial tendencies and a flair for the eccentric.

From directors Leo Scott and Ting Poo, Val will feature never-before-seen footage from the Willow actor himself, captured over the course of his storied 40-year film career. 

According to the outlet, Val contains thousands of hours of footage ranging from home videos to test shots for his iconic films like Top Gun.

‘At least once a day for years I looked around and got this bittersweet feeling that there are a thousand reasons that this project could’ve been shipwrecked,’ Kilmer said in a statement. 

‘I mean, what could a film look like of a man filming himself, sometimes daily, years at a time? It is unimaginable that this movie actually could’ve ever come to light without the partnership of my dear friends, Leo and Ting, and my producing partners. 

‘Tireless hours of editing and endless emotions with each new cut!’ the star added. ‘I couldn’t be more proud to share this with the world!’

Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke added, ‘Filmmakers Leo Scott and Ting Poo have a unique, cutting-edge style and artistry, weaving together never-before-seen footage into a beautiful, raw story about this renowned and celebrated actor, artist and man.’

Amazon Studios will release the A24 documentary later this year.

The actor will soon be reprising his iconic role from 1986’s Top Gun, Iceman, in the highly anticipated and much delayed sequel Top Gun: Maverick. 

That film is finally set for release this November.
