Sunrise’s Edwina Bartholomew apologises for turning off Mark Beretta’s microphone in the bathroom

The perils of live TV! Sunrise’s Edwina Bartholomew apologises for turning off Mark Beretta’s microphone while using the TOILET

Mark Beretta has worked as a sports presenter on Seven for over 20 years.

And even a veteran like himself suffered a technical glitch on air, with his microphone turning off during Wednesday’s episode of Sunrise.

In a clip shared to weatherman Sam Mac’s Twitter that night, news and entertainment reporter Edwina Bartholomew apologised for accidentally switching off his mic pack while using the bathroom at the Channel Seven studios.

‘I went to the bathroom and I accidentally turned off Beretta’s mic. I apologise,’ Edwina, 37, said.

Baffled, Kochie asked Edwina how someone else can turn off another’s microphone.

‘We have a little remote control where we can turn off our mic if we go to use the facilities,’ the mother of one explained.

Since joining the Seven network back in 1995, Mark has covered major sporting events across the globe including the summer and winter Olympic Games, as well as joining the commentary team for AFL games and the Australian Open tennis.

Despite the benefits of international travel and access to some of sporting’s greats, Mark previously revealed the worst part about working on Sunrise.

He told The Sunday Telegraph’s Stellar magazine in 2019: ‘We can’t do anything on weeknights.’

Mark, who wakes up for work at 3:30am each weekday, added: ‘And on Friday nights, we are so tired – you’re just exhausted a lot.’

But he said that the lack of sleep is a small price to pay for the top TV job, while gushing over David Koch, Natalie Barr and then co-host Samantha Armytage.

Grateful: Despite the early morning starts on Sunrise and lack of sleep, Mark previously told The Sunday Telegraph's Stellar magazine that working alongside the team is a 'privilege' as he 'admires and respects' them. Pictured: Natalie

‘But I love it, and it’s a privilege. I work with an incredible team who I continually admire and respect,’ he said.

Elsewhere in the feature, Mark went on to describe Kochie as a ‘role model’.

‘He is someone I’ve looked up to for a long time; he’s an amazing man in what he has done in his life and just his whole attitude to people,’ he said.
