A mum has confused hundreds of parents online with odd black snacks included in the lunchboxes she prepared for her three children and husband.

In the lunches, Christina included steamed miniature dim sims, fruit, saveloys and vegetable chip snacks, with a ham sandwich for her husband along with the unusual snack.

After sharing images to the Lunchbox Ideas Australia Facebook group, many asked what to oddly shaped snack was beside the rockmelon.

Christina revealed the black fruit pieces were simply washed ‘finger grapes’.

What is a finger grape?

Finger grapes – or witch finger grapes – are medium to large in size and are oblong and elongated in shape with the non-stem end tapering off into a small, slight point.

Growing in tightly packed, sometimes heavy bunches, the smooth, thin, skin is vibrant green, firm, and slightly crisp with a snap-like feel.

The translucent green flesh is juicy, soft, and seedless and they are sweet with a unique muscat flavor including floral and honey notes.

They are an excellent source of vitamins A, C, K, and the heart-healthy phytonutrient, resveratrol.

Before sharing what the unusual looking snack was, one woman said the fruit looked like ‘leeches’.

Another woman said she has ‘never seen them before’, while another parent dubbed the fruit as ‘sausage grapes’.

A fourth added: ‘They are super sweet, my daughter loves them.’

Despite the confusion, other parents praised Christina for preparing such healthy lunches for her family.

‘That ham sandwich looks SO deluxe! I want it!’ one woman said.

‘Yum the best sandwich ever! Also love finger grapes,’ another added.

Christina also said the lunchboxes themselves were purchased from online store Lunchbox Mini, which sell a variety of styles and products.
