Marcia Hines is ‘offered a contract to return to Australian Idol as a judge’

Marcia Hines ‘is offered a contract to return to Australian Idol’ – and she’s determined to be the mean judge

She was known as the nurturing, supportive judge on Australian Idol back in the day.

But Marcia Hines is determined to be the straight-talking ‘villain’ judge when she returns to the franchise next year, reports New Idea.

The U.S.-born singer has reportedly been offered a contract to join the panel, and she wants to change her persona when the show reboots on Channel Seven in 2022.

Marcia is back! According to a Monday report by New Idea, Marcia Hines, 67, has been offered to reprise her role as a judge on Australian Idol. And the US-born star could take things up a notch by dishing out some tough love on contestants

‘Dicko [Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson] was always known as the “mean judge” but producers are keen for Marcia to step up as the tough and controversial judge this time round,’ a source told the publication.

‘However, the decision has left Dicko feeling a bit hurt as he feels like he has been overlooked.’

Meanwhile, Idol fans could be in for double the nostalgia as former contestant Rob Mills has revealed he would love to host the singing competition on Seven.

‘Wouldn’t it be great if there was an Australian Idol alumnus to host a new series of Australian Idol?’ he told TV Tonight last month.

After a 12-year hiatus Australian Idol is returning to television in 2022.

The talent show is famous for discovering a string of top-selling artists, including Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Casey Donovan, Matt Corby and Ricki-Lee Coulter.

Last month, former winner Guy Sebastian revealed he refused to return to the reboot despite it being the show which made him a household name.

Speaking to The Herald Sun, the 39-year-old pop star said: ‘I had a conversation about it, but I shut it down fairly quickly,’ he said.

Guy, who has served as a judge on The Voice Australia since 2019, went on to explain that he wouldn’t feel comfortable jumping ship to yet another franchise.

‘I’m not involved at all. I’d still love to do something with Idol, I owe so much to it, it’s where I came from.

‘But I just can’t be one of those people who hop from TV show to TV show,’ he explained.
