John Waters discusses his new character on Doctor Doctor ahead of his debut on the show

John Waters is set to star on Channel Nine’s popular series Doctor Doctor.

And ahead of his debut on the show, the Australian actor, 72, has discussed his new character Michael.

‘I was told the character background and that he was a racy guy that had lived his life on the edge and was a hot-shot barrister,’ John told 9Entertainment.

‘I thought that sounds like me,’ he explained.

Michael is a former flame of Hugh Knight’s mother Meryl played by Tina Bursill.

‘Michael and Meryl were late-teens, early-20s kind of boyfriend/girlfriend for a while. We imagine it was probably about a year or so and then Michael went to continue his hot-shot career in Sydney,’ he said.

He returns to the town of Whyhope to represent Meryl in court against corruption charges.

Zoë Ventoura, Lincoln Younes, Darren McMullen, and Chantelle Jamieson will also be joining the show this season.

Last year, Channel Nine confirmed Doctor Doctor will be returning to screens for a fifth season.
