Everyday Ageism: CHRISTA D’SOUZA says Boomers fear offending their ‘ultra-woke’ children and it feels like discussing the dog is the only safe space left

It’s the last tolerated prejudice. But Femail’s had enough. It’s time we called out those day-to-day moments when we’re patronised for no longer being young…

Whatever differences I may have with my contemporaries, that is, fellow Boomers, the one thing I share with pretty much every single one of them is a fear of offending our children.

Now that we are allowed to socialise with each other, that’s what the conversation almost always leads to. Commiserating with each other on what eggshell-treaders we’ve become in the presence of our ultra-woke kids. Were our parents this scared of offending us? Of course they weren’t.

Christa D’Souza (pictured) claims almost all Boomers fear offending their ‘ultra-woke’ children and have become as meek as mice when it comes to expressing any sort of opinion

As a generation, we have become as meek as mice when it comes to expressing any sort of opinion. Well it’s just not worth it, is it? The wrath we will incur for not calling a person a cupboard who identifies as a cupboard, the sneers we get for daring to admit we think the government did quite a good job on the vaccination front. Gender, Race, Politics, The Environment (even though they all leave the lights on and collect Bitcoin) are completely and utterly off-limits if the peace is to be kept.

Sometimes it feels the only safe space left is discussing the dog.
