Ozzy Osbourne defends wife Sharon amid controversy that cost her job on The Talk

Ozzy Osbourne defended his wife Sharon in his first public comments following her exit from CBS’s The Talk in March, amid a divisive discussion about race with co-host Sheryl Underwood.

The musical mainstay, 72, spoke about the situation Monday on his SiriusXM show Ozzy Speaks, saying that ‘Sharon has been going to the mill lately.’

He told co-host Billy Morrison: ‘She’s been through the mill of it and, you know, all I can tell you if my wife was slightly racist, I’ll tell you she’s possibly the most unracist person I’ve ever met. And I’m not just saying that.’

The latest: Ozzy Osbourne, 72, defended his wife Sharon, 68, in his first public comments following her exit from CBS’s The Talk in March amid a divisive discussion about race with co-host Sheryl Underwood. The couple was snapped at the Grammys last year

The Black Sabbath singer said that Sharon, 68, was ‘devastated’ in the wake of the controversy, which rose amid a discussion about Piers Morgan’s issues with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following their interview with Oprah.

In the exchange, Sharon said, ‘I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is racist, so that makes me a racist … for me, at 68 years of age, to have to turn around and say, “I ain’t racist, what’s it gotta do with me?”‘

In their parting announced March 26, CBS said that ‘Sharon’s behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace’ and that Sharon had parted from the show.

Ozzy said Monday of her reaction: ‘She was like, “Why are they saying this about me?”‘

He added, ‘It’s still an unpleasant issue … it’s one of them things once you’re accused of it, people tar you with that brush and it’s very hard to shake off,’ noting that Sharon had ‘weathered the storm,’ and is ‘marching on.’

Ozzy described the controversy as ‘just another bump in the road,’ adding, ‘We’ll get through this.’
