More stars heading to Australia: Sigourney Weaver to film in Sydney

Sigourney Weaver is the latest Hollywood star set to head Down Under to film Amazon Prime series The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart

Hollywood heavyweight Sigourney Weaver is the latest movie star to head Down Under to film a project amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The 71-year-old Golden Globe winner will fly to Sydney later this year to shoot Amazon Prime original drama, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.

The seven-part series is based on the international best selling book by Australian author Holly Ringland.

Weaver is best known for her role as Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart tells the enchanting and compelling story of a young girl, Alice Hart, whose violent childhood casts a dark shadow over her adult life. 

The series will be produced by Australian hit-maker and Emmy winner Bruna Papandrea (Penguin Bloom).

Some of the world’s most renowned actors – including film royalty George Clooney and Julia Roberts – are making the move to capitalise on generous Government grants designed to boost Australia’s fledgling film industry. 

Clooney and Roberts’ rom-com Ticket to Paradise will transform Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands into Bali, while other locations in the state will be transformed into the US. 

Back in March, Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell were set to film Ron Howard’s Thirteen Lives in Queensland.

Currently in production in Sydney is the new Thor: Love and Thunder film, starring Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Matt Damon and Russell Crowe.

Zac Efron recently wrapped up filming Stan original movie Gold. 

It also comes on the back of news that new instalment to the Max Max franchise will also be filmed in New South Wales.
