Delta Goodrem has penned a track that pays homage to Elton John on her sixth studio album, Bridge Over Troubled Dreams.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Monday, the 36-year-old credits the legendary musical icon for inspiring her as a young artist.

‘[Elton] reached out to me when I was just starting out as an artist, then as fate would have it he called me on the first day of my chemotherapy treatment,’ she said, recalling her Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis in 2003.

‘That stayed with me. I was very impressionable, and people like Elton and Olivia (Newton-John) teach you what it is to be a great artist and a great mentor.’

Delta, who praises the Candle in the Wind hitmaker in the track Dear Elton, went on to thank him for tirelessly supporting emerging artists over the years.

‘Elton’s continued support of the community and younger artists helped make me who I am today,’ she said.

‘I think transparency with people, sharing, is something that connects us closer,’ she explained.

Delta, who rose to fame at the age of 18 after releasing her album Innocent Eyes, also revealed she still feels a sense of responsibility to her fans.
