Creative process: Delta Goodrem, 36, has revealed why she decided to release a book, Bridge Over Troubled Dreams, to coincide with her new album

‘I think transparency with people, sharing, is something that connects us closer,’ she explained.

‘Every time I was writing a song for the new album, I thought, “Well, l I’m sharing so many stories in the room about different life moments, I want to be able to say in the book what they mean.”‘

Delta said that growing up she was always a fan of reading album liner notes.

‘I used to read everything that came with an album,’ Delta said.

‘I love reading the lyrics. It was that kind of tactile feeling that a book was so important to go with the record.’

Reflecting on the music industry’s transition from CDs to digital downloads and streaming, she said she was nostalgic for the old days of physical copies.

‘As somebody who started so young, I’ve seen the evolution from Innocent Eyes, where it was all buying cassettes to everyone getting excited over vinyl again and I love that,’ she said.

Delta, who rose to fame at the age of 18 after releasing her album Innocent Eyes, also revealed she still feels a sense of responsibility to her fans.

‘I definitely still feel the responsibility just because I’ve grown up in everybody’s homes,’ she said. ‘I’ve always [valued] a real and beautiful connection.’
