Jake Edwards says it was ‘tough’ being separated from his mum during Married At First Sight

EXCLUSIVE: ‘I’m a mummy’s boy’: Married At First Sight’s Jake Edwards admits it was ‘extremely tough’ being separated from his mother while filming the reality show

Jake Edwards has revealed it was difficult to be separated from his family for several months while filming Married At First Sight last year.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Australia on Saturday, the 31-year-old said it was tough being in Sydney, filming an intense reality series without support.

‘I didn’t get to spend time with my mum and I’m very close with my family. I’ve very much a mummy’s boy, it was extremely tough,’ he said.

‘I’ve got a background in mental illness and it’s all about being able to manage it.’

Jake explained, ‘Not having access to my family – and not being able to just jump into a car and head out to the farm, to sit down with my family and talk about how things were going was hard.’

Melbourne, where Jake is from, was plunged into lockdown for almost six months, with Victorians unable to travel interstate for at least 111 days.

Jake began filming the Channel Nine reality show in August, and temporarily called Sydney home until December.

The reality star has since teamed up with OpenTable, to encourage Australians to spend more time with their mums this Mother’s Day.

‘2020 was a big year for me and that’s one of the main reasons I jumped on board as ambassador for this,’ Jake explained.

‘Especially being from Victoria, we were in lockdown for six months of the year and I didn’t get to spend as much time with my mum as I would have like to.’

It comes as OpenTable released new research to show that one in five (22 per cent) Aussies want to see their mum more frequently.

One in 10 (eight per cent) Aussies live in a different state to their mum, and seven per cent  Aussies whose mothers live overseas.

Heartbreakingly, in the past year, over half a million (525,764) Aussies’ mums haven’t been able to meet new family members, such as new partners or grand children.
