Charing Cross train station and underground have both been evacuated after a suspicious package was found in a nearby building, police have said.

The Met Police have said surrounding roads are closed and several other buildings have been evacuated as a ‘precaution.’

‘A number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution and roads in the area are closed.’

Charing Cross train station and underground have both been evacuated due to an ‘incident’

Southeastern trains warned passengers to seek alternative routes and a large police cordon is currently in place.

In a statement shared on their Twitter, Southwestern said: ‘Because of emergency services dealing with an incident, Charing Cross station is being evacuated.

‘There will be no services to/from Charing Cross until further notice. Some services will be diverted to other London terminals.

‘Because of the incident at #LondonCharingCross, there are also currently no trains to/from Waterloo East. The Underground stations in the area are not affected at this time.’

The train line later added that the underground station was also being evacuated as well and that trains would not stop there at this time.

The evacuation was confirmed by National Rail who also advised customers to use alternative routes and said the disruption is expected to last until at least 6.30pm.

Reports suggest a suspicious package has been found at a commercial building nearby and that other surrounding buildings have also been evacuated.

The British Transport Police and Transport for London have been contacted for comment.
