‘Was Kylie a bit jealous of you?’ Dannii Minogue put on the spot about her relationship with sister

For years, sisters Dannii and Kylie Minogue have always been compared.

And after constantly denying any form or jealousy or rivalry between the pair thanks to their respective successful careers, Dannii, 49, was put on the spot about it all during a chat with Angela Bishop on Studio 10 this week.

As she celebrated the fact it’s been 50 years since Young Talent Time debuted, Dannii was asked if Kylie was ‘a teeny bit jealous of her’ during their teenage years, as Dannii rose to fame on the hit show.

‘Was she a teeny bit jealous of you?’ Angela cheekily asked Dannii, who handled the question like a pro.

Dannii explained she was the one who was focused on the show and her singing career, while Kylie was focused on acting so there was no need to be jealous.

‘For Kylie, she was doing her acting at the time, she had done Henderson Kids and I don’t think she had the confidence with the singing and stuff back then,’ Dannii said.

‘She was really focused on the acting. So it seemed like a good fit at the time. Young Talent Time is good for Dannii and she was going to act for the rest of her life.’

She added: ‘We really didn’t see the music thing coming.’

Dannii meanwhile also spoke about how weird it was appearing on a popular national TV show on a Saturday night, before going back to school on a Monday.

‘Some of the kids were pretty cool and some didn’t know how to handle having someone famous at school so you just try and stay out of the way,’ Dannii said.

‘I spent my lunch times in the library doing my home work with the rest of the nerds just getting over it,’ she said, adding she never got bullied at school for being on TV.

Her debut album Kylie was released in 1988 and is now the highest-selling female Australian artist of all time, known for hits including Spinning Around and Can’t Get You Out of My Head.

Dannii reportedly wrote in her autobiography, My Story, that she’s never felt jealous of Kylie’s success, despite the rumours and headlines.

‘I tried not to get too “woe is me” about it, but as the weeks went on the only time I saw my name in print or heard it mentioned on TV or radio was as the less successful Minogue sister,’ she said.

‘Things like Dannii’s bitter jealousy over Kylie’s continued success, Dannii’s fashion faux pas and Kylie’s triumphs. Hey, isn’t Kylie bloody fabulous, everyone? And isn’t Dannii tragic?’

She admitted she was ‘hurt’ being ‘publicly pitted against someone you love.’

‘The truth of the matter is I never felt like I was competing with my sister.

‘The truth is I am and always have been so very proud of Kylie, and she is of me.’
