Drinkers run for their lives as horse bolts through crowd

A quick one at the Coach and Horses! Drinkers run for their lives as horse bolts through crowd enjoying first day of open-air hospitality in Wales

  • Shocking scenes show moment a carthorse narrowly avoids trampling drinkers
  • Horse had been tethered near Castle Court pub, on Isle of Anglesey, north Wales
  • Owners allegedly went on six-hour drinking session while it was tied up outside

A horse escaped its tether and bolted through a crowd of drinkers dragging its cart behind it – after its owners allegedly went on a six-hour drinking session while it was tied up outside.

The shocking scenes caught on CCTV at a pub on the picturesque Isle of Anglesey, north Wales, show the moment the carthorse almost tramples drinkers sat outside.

The animal had apparently been tethered not far from the Castle Court pub in the town of Beaumaris when its owners began their pub session.

It is believed the horse had been left at the spot for the entire afternoon as the owners enjoyed drinks on Monday – the first day pub beer gardens were reopened in Wales.

In the footage, around a dozen drinkers can be seen enjoying the pub’s courtyard.

One man sits with a friend and his walking frame while another table of four men enjoy drinks outside.

But within seconds, the horse and cart comes flying through as the animal makes a break for it, smashing into a table and narrowly missing the group of four.

Fortunately they see the equine missile in time and manage to leap from their table, with the cart missing them by inches and spilling all their drinks.

One man standing close to the camera seems to hear the clatter of the horse’s hooves and runs out of the way as it approaches.

As the animal charges through, its cart tips sideways and it knocks some of the pub’s awnings sideways, creating chaos.

People begin to film the incident while the horse doubles back, clearly panicked.

The animal, which was spooked but uninjured, was then stopped and petted as people tried to calm it down.

Witnesses said that two people had arrived at the pub using the horse and cart not long after it opened and had tethered the horse nearby, out of view.

They then stayed until around 6pm, when the horse charged.

The pub has been approached for comment.
