Professional cleaners have revealed the best, and easiest way to keep your car smelling great – and it costs less than 50c.

Simply add a drop or two of your favourite essential oil onto a wooden peg and clip it onto the air-conditioning vent.

‘This is an awesome idea for a waste-free air-freshener,’ one cleaner said adding good bamboo pegs cost just $7 for a packet of 20.

‘I love this, it is a nice, natural alternative to nasty air-fresheners,’ another added.

Others said they prefer to make an essential oil solution and soak their pegs in them overnight – and say they work well for the home too.

‘I clip mine onto my house fan and aircon and on the window in the bathroom,’ one woman said.

‘You can make heaps all at once, you just have to keep them in a sealed plastic bag and they are ready to go,’ another cleaner said.

And while any oil can be used in the car sleepy oils like lavender and frankincense are not advised.

Scents like orange, sandalwood and clove are known for freshness and tea tree, eucalyptus oil and lemon is also a winning combination.

The essential oil solution is made with a few drops of the oils and distilled water.

Soft toys also work well in cars, one cleaner said she has a stuffed frog toy on her car’s dashboard.

She adds a few drops of her favourite oil to its back every few weeks.

Essential oils are booming in popularity and being used for more than just a calming mix in a bougie diffuser.

Creative home stylist, Liz Amaya, from Brisbane, shared a video on Instagram of her lunchbox cleaning method as her kids’ finished school for term one.

The busy mum sprinkles the lunchboxes with bicarb soda before scrubbing in the corners with a toothbrush.

She then wiped out the loose powder with a dry cloth before putting the soft-cover lunchbox on a warm wash.

She added laundry detergent, vinegar and essential oil to help get the case clean.

The mum then hangs the lunchboxes outside, in direct sun and fresh air
