But, it was a comment by Dicko right after his audition that hit Guy’s self-esteem and left him feeling deflated.

At the time Dicko, who was know for his brutally honest opinion on the show, told a then 22 year-old Guy: ‘However, you look crap, so we’re going to have to work on that.’

The Voice Australia coach said: ‘That insecurity that was starting to dissipate came back. I thought, “Maybe I do look like crap, I’m not cut out for this.”‘

He also recalled that his ensemble for the audition wasn’t flashy or popstar level.

Insecure: The Voice Australia coach said of Dicko's hurtful comment about his appearance: 'That insecurity that was starting to dissipate came back... In my mind I thought I looked like Lenny Kravitz'

‘In my mind I thought I looked like Lenny Kravitz in this op-shop jacket that I had. It was all, like, sheepskin… I didn’t have a lot of cash,’ he laughed.

Elsewhere, Guy also revealed he was unsure that music was the right path for him, based on his looks, and he instead believed he should write songs for popstar-type people.

‘I was a weird-looking chubby, half-Asian kid who didn’t have the pop star look. I got on the train with all these rejection letters, tail between my legs and thought, I can’t change how I look, but I can still be a musician,’ he recalled.
