But she got to know another side to Craig years later, after she’d left Today Tonight and was hosting reality show Dancing with the Stars.

Sonia revealed her former boss – who is now Seven’s head of news and current affairs – had reached out to her when her father was very ill in hospital.

‘He’d obviously heard about it, and he sent me a very kind message,’ she said. ‘And so from that point, we started talking and we reconnected.’

Sonia said it was initially ‘strange’ dating Craig after having previously known him as the straight-talking boss at Today Tonight.

She explained: ‘So it was really after I’d finished working with him that our relationship started. And it’s strange because we’re polar opposites, too. I’m very showbiz and he’s very news. But I like to think we complement each other.’

Sonia and Craig welcomed their daughter, Maggie, in 2015, via IVF and an egg donor when she was 49. Craig has six children from a previous relationship.

Big Brother continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Seven
