Sonia Kruger reveals the very unromantic start to her relationship with Seven News executive Craig McPherson
Sonia Kruger has admitted her relationship with long-term partner Craig McPherson wasn’t exactly love at first sight.
The Big Brother host, 55, began dating the TV executive in 2008 when they both worked at Channel Seven, and they are now parents to six-year-old daughter Maggie.
Sonia told The Anj, Rob & Robbo Show on Monday she and Craig used to have many heated arguments when he was her boss on current affairs show Today Tonight, several years before they got together romantically.

She revealed there was one occasion when Craig berated her over the phone because Nine’s rival news program A Current Affair had got wind of a story she was chasing about former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins.
‘So, I remember having a fight with Craig. I was filing a story. I was in New York doing a story with Jennifer Hawkins and Donald Trump, of all people,’ she said.
‘And I was filing this story at three o’clock in the morning. And for some reason, A Current Affair had wind of the fact that we were there, doing this story, and so for some reason, this has filtered back to Craig and I was on the phone, and he said something to me along the lines of, ‘Well, why don’t you feed it straight to Channel Nine, Sonia?”
But she got to know another side to Craig years later, after she’d left Today Tonight and was hosting reality show Dancing with the Stars.
Sonia revealed her former boss reached out to her father was very ill and in hospital.
‘He’d obviously heard about it, and he sent me a very kind message,’ she said. ‘And so from that point, we started talking and we reconnected.’
Sonia said it was initially ‘strange’ dating Craig after having previously known him as straight-talking news boss at Seven.
She explained: ‘So it was really after I’d finished working with him that our relationship started. And it’s strange because we’re polar opposites, too. I’m very showbiz and he’s very news. But I like to think we complement each other.
Sonia and Craig welcomed their daughter, Maggie, in 2015, via IVF and an egg donor when she was 49. Craig has six children from a previous relationship.
