Grimes defends boyfriend Elon Musk after he was accused of ‘destroying the planet and humanity’

Singer Grimes did not sit idly by when TikTokers came for her boyfriend, billionaire Elon Musk on social media Sunday.

The 33-year-old, whose real name is Claire Boucher, jumped into the comments of a video of herself ‘sword dancing’ to defend Elon against criticism about his treatment of women and ‘destroying the planet and humanity.’

‘I try to correct the misconceptions,’ Grimes said to one person.

Commenters came after Elon, and by extension Grimes herself, on a recent TikTok video shared by the avant garde singer on Sunday. 

In one typo riddled message, a TikToker asked: ‘GRIMESSS. HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS AND ACTIVLEY [sic] SLEEP1NG WITH THE MAN WHO LOTERALLY [sic] DESTROY THE PLANET AND HUMANITY.’

Rather than letting the comments slide, Grimes responded directly: ‘How is he doing these things? His whole career is about making travel/house power etc sustainable and green. It’s worth a deep dive.’

Other users jumped in with various critiques of the 49-year-old Tesla CEO – from his treatment of women to how he spends his considerable wealth.

‘Ppl keep asking this,’ Grimes said in reference to those commenting on how Musk is rich enough to end mass hunger. ‘But just throwing $ doesn’t solve it. He’s trying to focus on the issues he knows he can solve and they r real essential issues.’ 

Another user asked: ‘Bestie can you confirm he’s not a men’s rights activist? Some people online have been saying that & I’m concerned.’ 

‘He’s not,’ Grimes snapped back. ‘Def he’s been very immature at points on Twitter but for ex the president of spaceX is a woman, as is his right hand at Neuralink etc.’

Elsewhere in the comments, Grimes said she ‘accepted’ this type of talk about her boyfriend of several years but was just too ‘close to it so sum times.’

‘I try to correct the misconceptions haha,’ she wrote.

Grimes and Elon have been romantically linked since 2018. Last May they welcomed their first child together, a baby boy they bizarrely named X AE A-XII.

This recent back and forth between Grimes and Elon’s detractors comes as the mogul is catching backlash from comedy fans who are upset that he will host an upcoming episode of SNL next month.  

The longtime NBC variety show made the announcement via social media as they shared a photo with Musk’s name alongside Miley Cyrus — who was tapped as musical guest — captioning the image ‘Musk See TV.’

The news came as shock to many as the program does not usually tap business moguls such as the SpaceX founder to play host, but it seemed a lucrative move on SNL’s part despite overwhelmingly negative fan reaction.

Amongst a flurry of ‘OMG, NO,’ comments on the show’s Instagram account and Twitter, one remark of approval was hard to come by.

‘idk how much communication you have with lorne or the higher ups, but someone needs to tell them that absolutely no one wants this. i can not think of a single person who wants this,’ a Twitter user wrote.  

Musk and Miley’s episode of SNL will air May 8.
