Drinking game students swig alcohol as they wave ‘you honk, we drink’ sign at drivers on busy dual carriageway outside university

A group of university students in Wales were spotted waving a sign at motorists on a dual carriageway as part of a drinking game.
The students were spotted outside Swansea University’s Bay Campus on Sunday afternoon as they tried to get the attention of passing drivers.
The sign they were waving read ‘You honk, we drink’ and is understood to have involved those taking part to have a swig of alcohol each time a driver responded.
The university has said it is now working to identify the students that were seen taking part in the game.

However, some locals claim the incident is just the latest episode involving students that has troubled the community.
One said: ‘I live right opposite the university in Crymlyn Burrows. This has never happened before but we have had problems with the students for years.
‘There is rubbish constantly on the beach; I was picking up glass bottles over there this weekend as I was walking my dog.
‘We’ve had students come over to the children’s play park and shouting and screaming in the middle of the night and then leaving their glass bottles on the kids’ play park. They only moved on when we went out to confront them.
‘We’ve got unwell elderly residents and children living right opposite, and we’ve had noise travelling across from the uni through the nights with their music and shouting.’
Kevin Child, director of student services at Swansea University, said any students identified as taking part in the drinking game would face possible disciplinary action.
They were spotted trying to get the attention of passing drivers and held up a sign that read: ‘You honk, we drink’ and is understood to have involved those taking part to have a swig of alcohol each time a driver responded
He added: ‘We would like to reassure residents we are treating this matter as a priority.
‘We communicated with ward councillor Helen Ceri Clarke this morning and are now working with South Wales Police to identify the people participating in this highly irresponsible activity.
‘We will have no hesitation in taking disciplinary action if necessary.’
He said the University had been working closely with Neath Port Talbot Council’s (NPTC) environmental health and noise abatement teams to assess the noise impact of students living on the Bay Campus.
As a result of that approach, he said the council was satisfied they had acted responsibly by increasing security patrols, restricting access to campus and attending when noise complaints were made.
He added that students had been told to avoid the Crymlyn Burrows children’s play area as soon as the university was alerted to the claims of anti-social behaviour on the site.
