Sunetra Sarker reveals she and husband Scott Carey still live ‘happily apart’

‘We didn’t want to uproot our kids’: Sunetra Sarker reveals she and husband Scott Carey still live ‘happily apart’ over two years after getting married

Sunetra Sarker has admitted she and her husband Scott Carey still live ‘happily apart’ more than two years after tying the knot.

The Ackley Bridge star, 47, married Scott in November 2018 and the couple made a decision to live apart because they both had children from previous relationships.

Appearing on Monday’s Loose Women, Sunetra explained she didn’t want to have to uproot their kids’ lives or make them switch schools if they moved in together.

She said: ‘We live happily apart. Scott and I, madly in love. Meeting Scott was like discovering a new colour.

‘Then the thought of us not living together was so weird, but because we both had sets of kids that were in schools and happily sorted, and seeing their other parents – we didn’t want to uproot our children and make them have to do something they didn’t want to just because we had fallen in love.

‘So, we decided to keep our kids in their schools and homes and we would be the ones that would make the sacrifice. We would see each other for one week and then we wouldn’t see each other for another week.’

The actress explained to hosts Nadia Sawalha, Jane Moore, Charlene White and Denise Welch that the couple will live apart for one week before Scott will join Sunetra and her son Noah, 15, in their home for the next week.

She said: ‘What happens is, Scott is with his kids for one week, then joins me and Noah here.

‘In our school breaks, we become a five and we all go to them or they’ll come to us. Holidays are fabulous because it’s such a rare thing to be together again.’

Sunetra and company director Scott married in two ceremonies – one traditionally British, the other Indian – at the Matara Centre in the Cotswolds.

Speaking previously about her unorthodox living arrangements, she told Hello! magazine: ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

‘What we have works for everyone, no one’s missing out, our children get on well, no one’s being compromised.’

During her appearance on the ITV chat show, Sunetra also discussed how she would downplay her Indian heritage as a child growing up in Liverpool because she didn’t want to be ‘different’.

She said: ‘Growing up in Liverpool, first and foremost, I’m a Scouser. I think I chose to be someone who could fit in with the crowd.

‘I didn’t like being different when I was younger, you do try and get across how normal you are.

‘When your mum wears a sari or your family speak a different language, you don’t want to focus on it too much. I got to about 35 and realised it’s very cool to be Indian.’
