Patrick Schwarzenegger tussles with Elijah Wood on Twitter for criticizing Indiana Jones sequel

He has complicated feelings about the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones film.

And Patrick Schwarzenegger, 27, took to Twitter on Friday to share his skepticism after it was reported that Phoebe Waller-Bridge would be joining the film, which will be the first not to have Steven Spielberg in the director’s chair.

But Elijah Wood, 40, was quick to defend the newest entry in the long-running adventure series, though the two worked out their differences by the end.

Not a fan: Patrick Schwarzenegger, 27, and Elijah Wood, 40, had it out on Twitter on Friday after Patrick tweeted negatively about the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones film; seen in 2019 in LA

Patrick initially reposted a tweet sent out by Spielberg’s production company Amblin announcing that Waller-Bridge would be playing the female lead in the film opposite Harrison Ford.

‘I love Indiana Jones but I’m just not sure about this,’ the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger tweeted.

But it wasn’t initially clear what his objections to the film were, and Elijah swooped into his replies to defend the film.

‘Not sure about what exactly? the mighty force of Phoebe Waller-Bridge? the brilliant James Mangold?’ he wrote.

Although an action–adventure film like the Indiana Jones sequel would be a significant departure for Waller-Bridge, she has some experience in a similar genre after voicing a droid in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

She’ll also be showing off that new side of herself when she costars with Donald Glover in the series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a reboot of the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as married spies.

She also has behind-the-scenes experience after cowriting the screenplay for the upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die.

As for Mangold, the director has received considerable acclaim and Oscar nominations for his most recent films, the X-Men spin-off Logan and the racing drama Ford V. Ferrari.

Although he’ll be taking over directing duties from Spielberg, who helmed the first four entries, the Jurassic Park director will still be involved as a producer.

But after Elijah’s defense of the actress/writer and the filmmaker, Patrick revealed he just wasn’t sold on a sequel.

‘Another film!’ he replied to Elijah’s post.

Harrison Ford is already 78, though he’s shown he can still do action-oriented films after appearing in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and 2017’s Blade Runner 2049, along with last year’s The Call Of The Wild adaptation.

Elijah replied: ‘Haha. fair!’

Now that he knew the two actors weren’t in opposition, he added a follow-up tweet: ‘A chance for redemption is hopeful.’

Their back-and-forth was likely totally friendly, as Elijah served as a producer on Patrick’s well-reviewed horror film Daniel Isn’t Here.

Though Spielberg won’t be directing this newest Indiana Jones film, his regular producers Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will all be returning to the fold for the adventure.

The film will also benefit from John Williams’ instantly recognizable score, as the legendary film composer will return after scoring every entry in the series going back to Raiders Of The Lost Ark from 1981.
