She’s known for her powerful performances and affable stage presence.

And on Thursday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 38-year-old singer revealed that she once had to use a trash can as an improvised toilet just before going in front of an audience.

The story was brought up during a conversation that the songwriter was having with country artist Clint Black, who mentioned that an opening act of his once admitted to urinating on stage.

Clarkson responded to the musician’s story with laughter and alluded to an embarrassing experience of her own, remarking, ‘I’ll tell you right now, there was one time … it wasn’t pee, my friend.’

The first American Idol winner began her account by noting that, before a performance, she had been ‘kind of wrecked up from some kind of food.’

She went on to explain to her guest in relatively graphic detail how she was forced to use a wastebasket as an improvised toilet in an effort to get on stage as quickly as possible. 

Clarkson recalled, ‘I grabbed this poor trash can and boy, I destroyed it. It was bad. It was bad, Clint…It happens! What are you supposed to do?’

The 59-year-old guest then jokingly stated that he was ‘trying to visualize’ the occurrence. 

The hitmaker also noted that she was unafraid of discussing subjects that many others would consider to be off the table or inappropriate to bring up.

‘I have no filter in the best of ways. I’m open to talk about everything. I don’t think anything is truly inappropriate — obviously some things,’ Clarkson remarked.

She added, ‘Most things I’m willing to talk about, which some people are not ready for when they talk to me. Like, ‘um TMI!”‘

The Since U Been Gone singer is well known for her energetic live performances and extensive touring schedule.

She initially took to the road during the American Idols Live! Tour 2002 after she took first place during the competition show’s inaugural season.

Clarkson’s first solo headlining run was entitled The Breakaway Tour and lasted from 2005 until the following year.

The songwriter has since embarked on several other excursions as an artist, with her most recent effort being the Meaning of Life Tour, which lasted from January until March of 2019.
