Fireworks interrupt two minute silence for Prince Philip at Celtic

Loud fireworks interrupt the two-minute silence to pay respect to Prince Philip before Celtic’s clash with Livingston after the Duke of Edinburgh’s death at 99

Numerous fireworks were set off during the two minute silence before Celtic’s match against Livingston, intended to pay respect to Prince Philip, who died on Friday.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away at the age of 99 after suffering from ill health and sports stars have given tribute to the Queen’s husband since then, with numerous Premier League teams observing silences impeccably.

But just before kick off at Celtic Park, several loud bangs were heard as fireworks were set off outside the Glasgow stadium.

Celtic eased past Livingston 6-0 in a comfortable victory, but the match was overshadowed by the distasteful events immediately before.

Several players from both sides looked upwards to the skies during the silence, with numerous and sustained clearly audible noises heard.

The commentator said: ‘I think that was some fireworks going off outside Celtic Park. Not sure what that was but some pretty loud bangs anyway.’

It is yet to be officially confirmed who set off the fireworks, or for what particular reason.

The victory for Celtic in the match secured a second placed finish in the Scottish Premiership, behind rivals Rangers.

Steven Gerrard’s side have already been confirmed as champions, and still remain unbeaten domestically this season.
