Laverne Cox and JoJo Siwa lead the LGBTQ celebs at the 32nd GLAAD Media Awards

Transgender trailblazer Laverne Cox and Dance Moms alum JoJo Siwa lead the celebrities appearing at the 32nd GLAAD Media Awards, which aired Thursday on Hulu.

Laverne, 48, was at the virtual LGBTQ ceremony to accept the award for best documentary for Netflix‘s Disclosure, which she executive produced.

‘When I saw [director Sam Feder’s] exhaustive research into the history of Hollywood’s portrayals of trans people, I was completely blown away. I’ve always known that if we don’t know our history, own that history, and fully internalize the lessons of that history – we are doomed to repeat it,’ Cox said in her moving speech.

‘To the trans youth watching right now, we want you to know that you are anointed. That despite all of the attacks that might be happening against you, you are divine. You deserve to be here and you are here for a reason. You must survive to fulfill that divine purpose. I love you all so much.’

The Daytime Emmy winner next plays celebrity trainer and life coach Kacy Duke in Shonda Rhimes’s 11-episode limited series Inventing Anna, which premieres later this year on Netflix.

The Manhattan-set drama is based on Jessica Pressler’s 2018 New York Magazine article How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People.

Meanwhile, JoJo made an appearance at GLAAD’s festivities while clad in a red chain-patterned tracksuit and her signature high ponytail and ribbon.
