Notoriously private singer Lorde, 24, makes a surprise return to social media in a rare snap of the star drinking martinis

It’s been three long years since notoriously private singer Lorde last posted on her own Instagram account. 

And fans were absolutely delighted when the Royals hitmaker, 24, made a surprise return to social media on Tuesday. 

Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, looked effortlessly chic in a silk button-up blouse as she made an stylish comeback by posting a picture of herself at a restaurant with a martini in her hand.

Lorde’s photo was uploaded on New Zealand food writer Albert Cho’s account, as the friends were celebrating Albert’s birthday at Auckland eatery, Daphnes.

As the Kiwi singer does not maintain an active public social media presence, the photo sent fans into a frenzy.

Many flooded the comments of Albert’s photo fawning over the pop star, asking him Lorde-related questions, and jokingly suggesting he ‘leak’ her upcoming album.

In January, Albert briefly shared a photo with Lorde to his Instagram, before swiftly deleting it. However, numerous fan accounts had already re-shared it.

Lorde meanwhile returned to posting reviews on her onion ring devoted Instagram account, Onion Rings Worldwide, a few months ago.

The Green Light singer let her alternate account gather dust for three years after she was outed as the secret administrator back in 2017.

She surprised fans by reactivating the account in December, posting: ‘Don’t call it a crumb back…’

Since then the Homemade Dynamite singer has ranked onion rings across New Zealand from takeaway venues in Queenstown, Russell and Herne Bay, Auckland.

She mysteriously removed all of her Instagram photos except just three – a picture of the words ‘Trust Me’ dating back to December 2016, an image of a crowd wearing 3D-glasses dating back to January 2017, and a third image of her on stage dating back to April 2018. 

In May 2020, four years after releasing her second album Melodrama, Lorde promised fans a new album was on its way in an email newsletter.
