Kurt Geiger to open 12 new UK stores: Designer shoe and handbag brand to expand by exploiting collapse in rents

Kurt Geiger will open 12 stores on Monday as it ramps up its presence in the UK.

The designer shoe and handbag brand is taking advantage of a collapse in rents to expand.

Seven of the stores will be Kurt Geigers and five will be Shoeaholics, an online shoe supermarket which hits the High Street for the first time.

The expansion comes as non-essential retail prepares to open its doors.

Since the pandemic struck, Kurt Geiger’s online business has boomed, with sales up 70 per cent, but overall sales have fallen by just under a fifth.

Chief executive Neil Clifford said: ‘The lives of the young have been on hold for 12 months so we’ll see a real rush back to normality from them.

‘The economic recovery will be funded by youth more than ever before.’
