Dermot O’Leary gushes over his ‘incredible love’ for baby son Kasper and wife Dee

‘It’s been a blessing’: Dermot O’Leary discusses his ‘incredible love’ for baby son Kasper, 10 months, and wife Dee

He welcomed his first child during lockdown last year.

Yet Dermot O’Leary has revealed the enforced stay-at-home order was a ‘blessing’ for the usually hectic star as it meant he got to spend more time with baby Kasper and wife Dee.

Speaking to heat magazine, The X Factor host, 47, added that he has been shocked at just how quickly his son, 10 months, is growing as he gushed over life as a father.

He mused: ‘The last year has been a s**t show but you’ve got to take your blessings where you can and having work and a child in lockdown means I’ve been able to spend time at home with the baby, more than I would have, which is lovely’.

Despite spending as much time as possible with his son, Dermot confessed he was shocked at how quickly his little one is developing.

‘The total unconditional love didn’t surprise me at all and I’ve loved being on admin duty and kitchen duty for the first couple months,’ he began.

‘A lot of people said you won’t really get much out of the first few months but actually that’s bulls**t because you get loads because you’re just staring at this thing you’ve got this incredible love for, and sure you’re getting nothing back, but that doesn’t matter because that’s part of the deal.

‘It’s just how quickly the time goes that takes me back the most. They’re all great stages – everyone keeps telling me that the next stage is the best.’

As well as caring for his baby boy, Dermot also revealed he has been spending lockdown trying to learn Norwegian for his wife Dee – who hails from Norway.

The couple first met in 2002 when they worked for the same TV production company and got engaged in New York in December 2011, tying the knot the following year.

He recently said there’s ‘no secret’ to their marriage and that he believes it works because they ‘give each other space’.

He told new! magazine: ‘There is no secret. I really like her, she’s my best friend. I think not being in each other’s pockets all the time and giving each other space is a massive thing. We’ve never been too beholden to each other.

‘Obviously, we’ve got a bubba and so someone’s got to change the nappies! We both do our fair share of that, but as well as that, it’s like, if someone wants to go out, they go out.’

Dermot added there’s no ‘nonsense’ of negotiating who goes out when and noted that you wouldn’t treat your best friend like that so the same applies with your spouse.
