Chris Hemsworth and Russell Crowe ‘in talks to co-produce Gladiator 2′ as rumours the Thor hunk will play Maximus’ son in action-packed sequel

It’s been more than two decades since Hollywood blockbuster Gladiator became a critical and box office sensation, earning more than $400 million worldwide and securing 11 Oscar nominations.

Now there are rumours Chris Hemsworth and Russell Crowe are in talks to co-produce an action-packed sequel: Gladiator 2.

An industry insider told New Idea on Monday that Chris and Russell are carefully considering the concept, and have spent hours musing over script ideas.

Gladiator 2 was first speculated in 2018, with original reports claiming the sequel would occur 20-30 years on from the death of Roman leader Maximus (Crowe).

‘Russell thinks he could be the only man to credibly play his son in a Gladiator sequel,’ explains the source.

The mystery insider also claimed that the actors have become closer ever since Russell joined Thor: Love and Thunder’s filming in Sydney.

In March, Chris and wife Elsa Pataky even attended a South Sydney Rabbitohs game with Russell, and their Thor co-stars Natalie Portman, Jeff Goldblum and Tessa Thompson. 

Chris began production on Thor: Love and Thunder in Sydney on January 26.

Much like Russell was in 2000, Australian actor Chris is in his physical prime and has a muscular frame fit to play a Roman gladiator.

Meanwhile, it was announced in March that Chris would be helping produce, alongside Kathy Morgan, Christopher Mapp, Robert Slaviero, and Peter D. Graves, his wife Elsa Pataky’s new film.

Netflix’s exciting new action drama film Interceptor will see the Spanish actress, 44, star as the lead character – a woman set to save the world from 16 nuclear missiles.

The exciting new movie will be filmed in Sydney, with production set to commence this month.
