Etsy seller who created Princess Eugenie’s August sweater said she didn’t know it was for a royal

The entrepreneur who knitted a cardigan for Princess Eugenie‘s son August said she had no idea her designs were about to be propelled into the spotlight until she saw a picture on Instagram.

Charlene Holden, from Horsforth, is the owner of Uncool Wool, an Etsy shop she started in 2020, selling hand knitted jumpers and cardigans for children.

Baby August, sported a personalised Uncool Wool cardigan in a picture shared by his mother for her 31st birthday.

The entrepreneur was asked to make a sweater embroidered with the name August at the back, but told Hello Magazine she had no idea it was for a royal until she saw the picture of Eugenie on Instagram

Since word got out, Charlene, a mother-of-one, said she’s received requests from all over the world for her cardigans, normally costing £18 to £35.

The woman behind the sweater worn by Princess Eugenie’s son August’s embroidered sweater in Windsor on her birthday said she had no idea she had made it for a royal, and said sales have blown up since Eugenie shared the look on Instagram

Charlene said discovering that a royal baby was wearing one of her sweaters ‘was very surreal, but amazing.’

She said she remembered the request for the August sweater but had not connected the dots at the time and didn’t know it was for a royal.

Charlene started the business in December 2020 and was mainly selling designs to family and friends, but the e-shop has exploded since Eugenie showed off the sweater on her social media.

Since then, she claimed that a lot of friends of Eugenie’s ordered sweaters as gifts on her website.

The couple were pictured leaving the hospital three days later on February 12.

Eugenie went on to reveal the name was a touching tribute to Queen Victoria’s Husband Prince Albert, whose birth name was Franz Albert August Karl Emanuel, and Prince Philip, who is currently in hospital, writing: ‘On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy.

He is named after his great grandfather and both of his 5x great grandfathers.’

The new mum shared another look at her newborn while celebrating Mother’s Day on  Instagram earlier this month, with a sweet picture of her baby lying among some daffodils.

Although his head is turned away from the camera, the young royal can be seen donning a patterned babygrow adorned with whales, a knitted white cardigan, matching hat and fluffy rabbit slippers.
