Three outdoor garden lights for your garden picked by Alexander James Interiors

Light up your garden! We take a look at three designer lights to illuminate outdoor life as lockdown restrictions ease

  • We take a look at three designer garden lights picked by a top interior designer
  • The outdoor lights range in budget from £55 to a more substantial £780

With lockdown restrictions easing, it’s time to maximise the use of outdoor space as the warmer weather arrives.

This may include a private garden or balcony, where lighting can help you enjoy the outdoors for longer as the evening sets in – and make a design statement.

We take a look at some lights designed specifically for outdoors, with various budgets in mind – from £55 to £780. They are connected to the mains, providing a more reliable energy supply than a string of lights dependent on batteries that may only last a week.

Our selection comes as the rules about meeting outdoors ease, with people allowed to meet outside since March 29 – including in private gardens – in groups of up to six, or as two households.

The outdoor lights have been picked by top interior designer Alexander James Interiors, with prices ranging up to £780.

They boast features such as dimmer switches, and even include a pendant – a design more usually associated with indoor lighting.

Rachel Clark, of Alexander James Interiors, said: ‘Garden lighting is so important. Not only does it illuminate outdoor spaces at night for functional living, but it also creates an atmospheric, welcoming glow to make outdoor spaces cosy and inviting.’

‘What is more, outdoor lighting just looks as beautiful from inside the home as it does from the outside, meaning you don’t even have to be outside to appreciate it.’

Ellie Fennell, a lighting buyer at John Lewis, said: ‘Lighting can really transform your outdoor space and set the mood for gatherings.’

And Amanda Pollard of Houzz.co.uk, added: ‘Lighting is key to creating a space that works equally as well into the evening.’
