Max George claims he was embroiled in a furious row with manager Scooter Braun

Max George has claimed he was embroiled in a furious row with his then-manager Scooter Braun after growing ‘frustrated’ with his career.

The singer, 32, admitted his behaviour during a drunken night out in New York brought an end to his working relationship with the music mogul, even after he apologised profusely.

Max joined stars including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato in being signed by Scooter in 2014 after his band The Wanted decided to take a break, and despite releases two singles failed to make a huge impact in the US.

Speaking on Tom Green’s Dangerous Dinners podcast, Max explained he signed with Scooter as a solo artist after he managed The Wanted.

But the Strictly Come Dancing star admitted that being managed by the mogul wasn’t perfect, as he was left to fend for himself a majority of the time.

He said: ‘There is like a downside though to having a manager that has got such big artists because you’re not the priority so you have to fend for yourself quite a lot, and I found that out when I was in LA.

‘Scooter helped me a lot in certain things. But yeah it was quite a lonely place to be at times.’

As Tom asked whether he and Scooter ever went partying in the States, Max admitted he did clash with his ex-manager while they were on a night out in New York after The Wanted split.

He explained: ‘I remember having an argument with him when I was in New York one night when I was leathered.

‘And I was forever apologising for my actions that night. It was frustration that the band had ended.’

He added: ‘Oh man I went into one in a club one night. I proper went into one. And yeah our relationship wasn’t great after that to be honest.’

As Tom noted that nightclub rows are ‘hard enough’ as you struggle to hear the person you’re clashing with, Max admitted the row brought an end to his working relationship with Scooter.

He added: ‘Yeah it’s pretty awkward innit? I couldn’t remember anything either. Andy Brown who was a friend of mine, he was in the band Lawson and he’s the one that dragged me away.

‘And the next day he was like ”mate, you ain’t got no manager now.” I was like ‘f*****g hell man.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Scooter Braun for comment.

But it wasn’t all bad times for Max during his time living in LA, as he also recalled a night out he enjoyed with Justin, Ariana, Ed Sheeran and Tom Hanks.

He explained: ‘I remember once actually, Scooter said ”come for a pint at Rock and Reilly’s”, which was one of my locals when I lived in LA and I was like ”alright.”

‘And I got there and I ended up, I was just sat there and having just gone for a quick drink with him ended up going on a full night of drinking with Scooter, Tom Hanks, Ariana and Justin Bieber. Oh and Ed Sheeran.

‘And we were all just there, having a drink. And then we went back to Scooter’s house. Justin and Ed didn’t but me Ariana and Tom Hanks went back to Scooter’s house and I played Cluedo with Tom Hanks.’

Asked whether the Oscar-winning actor was ‘nice,’ Max said: ‘So nice. I mean I’m talking like he’s my best mate. I said like four words to him. But yeah that was cool. Those were the perks of Scooter.’

The Wanted first confirmed back in 2014 that they’d decided to split, and Max later signed a solo record deal with the band’s manager Scooter.

Despite releasing a single in 2018 and landing a guest spot on Glee, the star failed make a huge impact Stateside, and has since returned to the UK.

During the interview Max also offered an update on his bandmate Tom Parker, who has been battling a terminal brain tumour.

He said: ‘He’s had his first bout of chemo and radiotherapy which he’s responded to unbelievably. The doctors were actually shocked at how well he’s responded all of his tumours have been suppressed so yeah he’s in the best hands.

‘And he himself, Tom, nothing will slow him down. If you talk to him, everything’s normal, and that’s all he wants is normality.

‘Obviously he’s just had this second child he’s got so much to focus on, he’s doing great he’s doing well. Obviously it’s a horrible thing to happen that young and I couldn’t think of anyone who deserves it less than Tom.’
