Going, going… gone! Mother, 38, uses weekly selfies to inspire 6st weight loss during lockdown health drive

It is often claimed that ‘the camera adds ten pounds’.

But not so for Sheena Vadher, who used selfies to inspire herself to lose more than six stone.

Every Monday morning after recording her weight, the 38-year-old took a front and side view photo of herself using her phone.

It is often claimed that ‘the camera adds ten pounds’. But not so for Sheena Vadher, who used selfies to inspire herself to lose more than six stone.

And over the last 15 months she has dropped from 16st 1lb to 10st – going from a size 18 to a size 10.

The mother-of-one praised the selfie routine because she could see how far she had progressed which encouraged her to keep going.

She said: ‘I have lost weight before, but I have got to a certain point and then given up.

‘I think it’s because I didn’t realise how far I’d come or noticed how much weight I’d lost.’

She said takeaway food and large portions were to blame for her excess weight.

But she has used the extra time at home during lockdown to prepare healthier meals.

Mrs Vadher decided in January last year that she was going to win her fight against the flab.

Within four weeks of following the online plan of WW, formerly known as Weight Watchers, she had lost 14lbs and could already see a change.

‘I had some weeks where I stayed the same or even put-on weight, but by looking at the photographs I could see a slight gain did not make a big difference,’ she said.

‘I could see that my weight loss was still going in the right direction.’

She began taking selfies in a dress and switched to wearing a clingy t-shirt and leggings as the weight dropped off.

Mrs Vadher wasn’t put off her diet by lockdown as she had time to prepare healthier meals at home using her diet plan.

Thanks to her diet, exercise and photo regime her BMI dropped from an obese 36.1 to a healthy 22.4.

She said: ‘I have lost 85lbs to get to my goal weight, but this time I have had the extra target for toning up and getting fit.

‘I 100 per cent think the taking photographs has helped me achieve my goal so I will keep doing this as long as I need to. It’s a game changer.

‘It’s a great way for you to keep focused and see what’s going on. In moments of weakness, you can look at your own photos. I am always looking and comparing and seeing how well I’ve done.’

She said takeaway food and large portions were to blame for her excess weight and although she has managed to lose weight before she always put it on again.

This time the delighted mother believes she can keep her weight off… and will take photos to prove it.

‘I’m proud of myself and think we all need to be able to give ourselves a pat on the back when we are doing well,’ she said.

‘It has helped me remain positive in such a difficult year. I now hope I can help others by passing on the secret to my success.’
