Good Morning Britain’s Ranvir Singh clashes with Dr Hilary as he mentions wearing MASKS on the beach to prevent spread of Covid

Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh clashed with co-star Dr Hilary Jones on air after he mentioned wearing masks on the beach to prevent Covid spread.

During Wednesday’s episode of the programme, Ranvir and Dr Hilary discussed thousands flocking to beaches and parks during the nations heatwave on Tuesday.

Dr Hilary, 67, referenced Spain‘s rules where beach goers are told to cover their faces with masks while sunbathing and in the sea.

But Ranvir suggested the point of easing lockdown is so the public are able to enjoy a sense of normality again, such as the events that were taking place the day prior.

Dr Hilary said: ‘Spain are worried about infection rates and worried about their health service being overwhelmed.

‘In theory if you go swimming in the sea (in Spain) you should be wearing a mask if you take their rule to its natural conclusion. Anyone over six.’

Ranvir, 43, replied: ‘Isn’t the point of easing lockdown testing how far we’ve come?

‘We are going to have Covid in society we are going to have to live with it. Some people might get terribly sick with it.

‘My point being, this sort of thing yesterday of course it’s not ideal but isn’t this the point of it, we’re essentially encouraged to go outside.

‘Mental health speaking, all I have heard on the radio is ‘I feel happier’.’

Dr Hilary insisted that it didn’t want to appear to be a ‘killjoy’, but he wanted to make sure viewers were aware of the ‘science’ of the situation.

One viewer at home said Ranvir was talking sense, as they took to Twitter and wrote: ‘Ranvir talking more sense in 2 minutes than Dr Doom has all week #GMB.’

Another poked fun at the idea of swimming in a mask, and said: ‘You should wear a mask if you are swimming in the sea in Spain – Dr Hilary #GMB.’

A third wrote: ‘Dr Hilary Doom just hates seeing people having fun. It means he’ll be off the TV and back in the GP surgery soon #GMB.’

The TV doctor is heading up the Government’s ‘Let’s Take This Next Step Safely’ campaign, which is currently running across TV and radio.

The major campaign reminds the public to stick to the rules and remain outside when meeting others to help reduce the spread of Covid-19.

It encourages people to remember the ‘Hands, Face, Space and Fresh Air’ message and resist the temptation to hug those who are not in the same household or bubble.

The campaign also tells Britons they should have the courage to say ‘No’ if someone tries to tempt them to break the rules.

Ministers are concerned that people will see today’s easing of the lockdown as an excuse to meet indoors, even though this is not allowed until May.
