Britney Spears wrote a ‘poignant letter’ to Sharon Stone asking her for help

Britney Spears wrote a ‘poignant letter’ to Sharon Stone to ask her for help during a ‘difficult time’, it has been revealed.

The Hollywood actress, 63, told how the pop star, 39, came to her for advice not long she was put under her conservatorship in 2008.

Sharon recalled the moving and ‘important’ letter during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Wednesday.

Advice: Britney Spears wrote a ‘poignant letter’ to Sharon Stone to ask her for help during a ‘difficult time’, it has been revealed

She said: ‘Britney wrote to me a very long and important, poignant letter during a very difficult time in her life, about the time when people would recognise her for when she shaved her head, wanting me to help her.

‘And I was in a very difficult time of my life, and I couldn’t help myself. But the truth of the matter is, we both needed help. She needed help, and I needed help.

‘The true fact of it is, it’s very hard to be a very successful woman and not have everyone controlling you, taking your finances and handling you. I’m sure all of the young stars get handled.’

Host Kelly discussed how a person can eventually reach ‘breaking point’ which Sharon agreed with.

She said: ‘You get handled so much that… there is a huge breaking point, and there’s a point where you get broken. The thing with Britney Spears is so out of control and so awful.’

The Basic Instinct star added she has had experiences of people trying to control her in her own life.

She said: ‘And certainly, I can say it’s been very out of control and very awful more than once in my life, and I have certainly had it.

‘And it’s very complicated to take control of your life. It’s very hard to get control of your finances.’

Britney has been under a conservatorship since 2008, giving her father Jamie control over her financial and legal decisions.

It comes after Britney admitted she was embarrassed and ‘cried for two weeks’ about her portrayal in Framing Britney Spears and admitted she wasn’t watched the documentary in full.

On Tuesday, the singer broke her silence over the New York Times programme that aired last month, showing her rise to stardom and the ongoing conservatorship battle with her father.

‘I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in,’ she wrote in an Instagram post. ‘I cried for two weeks and well… I still cry sometimes!!!!’

Britney shared her feelings about the show alongside an Instagram video where she danced to the 1993 Aerosmith hit Crazy in a crop top and shorts.

‘My life has always been very speculated… watched… and judged really my whole life!!!’ the Grammy-winning artist began the post.

‘For my sanity I need to dance to @iamstevent every night of my life to feel wild and human and alive!!!’ ‘I have been exposed my whole life performing in front of people!!!’

She continued: ‘It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I’ve always been so judged… insulted… and embarrassed by the media… and I still am till this day!!!!’ she said.

‘As the world keeps on turning and life goes on we still remain so fragile and sensitive as people!!!’

Tuesday’s comments marked the first time the pop star – who is mom to teen sons Preston, 15, and Jayden, 14 – has publicly commented on the Hulu documentary, which premiered February 5.

The documentary detailed the Oops!… I Did It Again singer’s portrayal in the media for more than two decades and the ongoing #FreeBritney movement amid her conservatorship battle with her father Jamie Spears.

In it, several former agents and friends suggested that Britney’s mom Lynne cared for her well-being while Jamie was more concerned about her earning ability.

THE ROLE OF CONSERVATOR:

Under California law a conservator is appointed by a judge to care for another adult who cannot care for themself or manage their own finances.

The role of a conservator of the person involves:

  • Arranging the conservatee’s care and protection
  • Decide where they live
  • Make arrangements for their meals, healthcare, clothing, personal care, housekeeping, transportation, shelter, recreation, and well-being.
  • Get court approval for decisions about the conservatee’s health care or living arrangements
  • Report to the court on their status

The conservatorship was first put in place in 2008 after Britney suffered a very public breakdown, which led to her being committed to the psychiatric ward of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and put on a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold under California state law.

She was released five days later and the court gave her father complete control of her assets, with attorney Andrew Wallet and licensed fiduciary Jodi Montgomery also playing roles in the case.

Wallet has since resigned from his duties in the Spears case in March 2019.

At around the same time, her parents brought a restraining order against Sam Lufti, who they said had inserted himself in Britney’s life to take advantage of her.

He has always denied their allegations.

Due to health reasons, Jamie was forced to temporarily hand over the reins in 2019 to Jodi Montgomery, who was already working as Britney’s care manager.

Britney has been fighting to ask a court to permanently replace her dad with Montgomery as the conservator over her person.

In August last year, Britney lost a bid to remove him.

The pop star’s fans have railed behind a #FreeBritney movement sharing conspiracy theories claiming Britney is being held against her will and supporting her in her fight for legal freedom from her father.

The Hulu documentary then brought renewed attention to Britney’s plight.

Since the documentary was released, Jamie was reinstated as her co-conservator, given equal power with wealth management firm Bessemer Trust Company.

Jamie sought to regain sole conservatorship, after Bessemer was brought on back in November, as Britney’s attorneys have stated multiple times that she doesn’t want her father overseeing the conservatorship.

His legal team recently wrote in a statement: ‘My client, Jamie Spears, has diligently and professionally carried out his duties as one of Britney’s conservators, and his love for his daughter and dedication to protecting her is clearly apparent to the court.’

Stark said she’s interested in diving deeper than Jamie’s involvement in a new installment: ‘I think there’s way more to learn about the circumstances of the conservatorship and how the conservatorship has been running and why, the people involved in its creation and running it.

She added: ‘Right now, Jamie Spears is the face of this because he’s the person that was named in the court filings that were filed by Britney’s court-appointed attorney.

‘But it’s clear that he’s not the only person who was working on this and that he’s not the only person that has benefited monetarily from this, so I think it’s important to look into everything. And of course it will be very important to keep following the court hearings as they keep happening.’

In the latest development in the ongoing legal saga, Spears’ lawyer filed a request last week asking for Jamie to be permanently removed as conservator.

Lawyer Samuel Ingham told a Los Angeles court hearing he will ask that Jodi Montgomery, who in 2019 was appointed temporary conservator of the singer’s personal affairs, be made permanent.

Ingham said he would present the petition at an April 27 hearing.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Britney is interested in telling her side of the story from her own perspective, but said she has no plans doing a tell-all television interview where no subject is off-limits.

Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, fans had called on Britney to do the same.

However, an insider told Us Weekly: ‘The report about Britney considering a tell-all is greatly exaggerated and essentially giving false hope to the fans who tweeted calls for it after the Harry and Meghan interview’.

‘Britney would like to tell her story and has always wanted to write a memoir, but the conservatorship makes that difficult and it’s not something on her immediate radar, anyway.’

Another source confirmed Britney’s interest in having her voice heard in an alternative format other than a TV interview.

‘Britney hasn’t mentioned doing an interview. She wants to speak and could do so on social media with the assistance of [boyfriend Sam Asghari] on his platforms if it got to be this emergency situation for her,’ the second insider explained before adding that ‘she doesn’t want to be filtered.’

Britney’s boyfriend Sam has not been as quiet as his partner, recently launching an astonishing attack on the pop icon’s father.

In an Instagram post last month, Sam, 27, called Jamie a ‘total d**k’ in a post he shared to Instagram, which also appeared to accuse Britney’s dad of trying to control the couple’s relationship.

Sam – who has been dating Britney since working together on her 2016 video, Slumber Party – began his post: ‘Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way.

‘In my opinion Jamie is a total d**k. I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom.’

The Iranian fitness model added an animated ‘mic drop’ emoji.

It followed a much much more restrained statement he gave to People following the documentary.

It read: ‘I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves.’

‘I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.’

Meanwhile, insiders told Us that Britney’s friends and family had mixed feelings about the documentary.

‘The likes of her dad and others in the conservatorship are far from happy about it, obviously, because they feel it’s another example of them being painted as money-grabbing villains when all they’re doing – so they say – is trying to help Britney run her life and stay in a safe place,’ the source said.

‘But there are growing numbers of people who think it’s high time this extremely sad and confusing story was aired and it’s a positive step in the right direction.’

Britney’s dad has previously spoken out about the documentary with his attorney denying claims he is controlling her against her will and saying he actually ‘saved’ her life and finances after watching her be exploited by others

The conservatorship that Britney was put under is ordinarily used in situations where older, perhaps senile people, can no longer look after their own affairs.

It gives control over to an appointed conservator for the best interest of the recipient but in most cases, the recipient is not healthy enough to make their own money, unlike Britney who makes millions.

Under the rules of the probate conservatorship, Jamie now has equal control over her estate to a third party and an attorney, Andrew Wallet.

Wallet derives  a salary of $426,000 a year from Britney’s estate.

He, Jamie and the third party who was brought on recently can make deals on her behalf and restrict her visitors.

March 2021: Spears’ lawyer Samuel Ingham tells a Los Angeles court hearing he will ask that Jodi Montgomery, who in 2019 was appointed temporary conservator of the singer’s personal affairs, be made permanent.

Ingham says he will present the petition at an April 27 hearing.
