Woman’s armchair goes viral when people spot a human silhouette worn into the old brown leather

An Oklahoma woman’s old brown armchair has gone viral on social media thanks to a very distinct discoloration that looks like the silhouette of a person who sat there.

DeAnna ‘DeDe’ Whitlock Yingling, 52, decided to sell her brown chair online last month, listing it on 15 websites for the price of $100.

Her humble armchair soon earned much more attention that she could have ever expected thanks to the worn-in pattern that appears to have taken on the shape of a man who regularly sat there.

DeDe, a healthcare worker from  Oklahoma City, listed the product on Facebook Marketplace, as well as 14 other websites on the evening of March 11.

She described it as a ‘beautiful chair’ that had ‘nothing wrong with it’ but explained that she was changing her home decor, and it no longer fit the theme.

Unexpectedly, within 24 hours, the listing went viral — but not because people were keen to buy it.

Instead, social media users were quick to notice the outline of a ‘person’ clearly imprinted on the furniture.

DeAnna’s listing has since become the subjects of hundreds of memes, and she’s been offered up to $500 for the old chair.

‘The story behind the chair is a bit of an odd one because I never noticed an image of any kind,’ DeAnna told Jam Press.

‘I purchased it from someone else on Marketplace and it has been sat in my living room for a long time and no one has ever said anything about it.

‘I listed it online, and the following morning, my sister sent me a text to tell me that it was blowing up on Facebook.’

The day after it was uploaded to Facebook, DeAnna’s chair listing had been shared 2,784 times and received hundreds of comments from social media users.

She was blown away by the response and has found the comments extremely entertaining.

DeAnna said: ‘A friend even texted me saying our very own Mayor David Holt of Oklahoma City even made a comment about the chair on Twitter, saying it deserved a broader audience.

‘I didn’t have a Twitter account but now I do,’ she added.

On Twitter, fans of the chair have cracked jokes about the silhouette.

‘I may buy it and create a haunted room in my house. Old baby dolls and the grandpa ghost chair,’ wrote one person.

‘Someone died in this mofo,’ added someone else.

One fan even though it might have previously belonged to former President Donald Trump and joked: ‘Wow, how did you get hold of Trump’s chair?’

‘Nothing wrong with it, just an atomic bomb took out the person sitting on it, as you can see the person’s silhouette was printed on the chair,’ another person added.

Thanks to its viral success, DeAnna has now been inundated with more than 30 offers for her old chair.

However, she believes there may be a slightly more spooky reasoning behind the imprint on the old leather furniture.

She said: ‘We’ve lived in this house for 13 years but there has always been a weird vibe to it and unexplained things would happen.

‘Often, we hear music coming from nowhere. It’s very faint and difficult to make out and only happens in the evening. But we just carry on with what we’re doing.’

She also speculated that the imprint might be care of her late husband.

‘My husband passed away eight years ago and I’ve heard that sometimes loved ones visit,’ she said.

‘I’m not superstitious or anything like that but is there a possibility that he was sitting there when I took the pictures? Maybe.’
