Game of Thrones play headed to Broadway, West End, and Australia

Game of Thrones play headed to Broadway, West End, and Australia… with fan-favorites Ned Stark and Jaime Lannister dramatizing the story of Westeros

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is reportedly developing a play version destined for Broadway, the West End, and Australia in 2023.

The stage spectacular ‘will bring fan-favorites like Ned Stark and Jaime Lannister back to life’ in a story set 16 years before the HBO hit series – according to THR.

The untitled production centers around Westeros’ 10-day, The Great Tourney at Harrenhal, under the direction of former Royal Court Theatre artistic director Dominic Cooke.

Playwright Duncan MacMillan (1984) will pen the onstage piece about the epic tournament produced by The Illusionists team Simon Painter and Tim Lawson.

Other possible characters to be featured include Lyanna Stark, Lord Robert Baratheon, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince Oberyn Martell and Ser Barristan Selmy.

However, fans should not expect the return of Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, or Arya Stark – none of whom were alive during the tournament.

‘The seeds of war are often planted in times of peace,’ Martin said in a statement.

‘Few in Westeros knew the carnage to come when highborn and smallfolk alike gathered at Harrenhal to watch the finest knights of the realm compete in a great tourney, during the Year of the False Spring.

‘It is a tourney oft referred during HBO’s Game of Thrones, and in my novels, A Song of Ice & Fire…and now, at last, we can tell the whole story on the stage.’
