Ferne McCann admits she’s ‘scared’ of social media and has been branded an ‘OGRE’ by trolls

Ferne McCann has admitted she is scared of social media and has even been branded an ‘ogre’ by vile online trolls.

The First Time Mum star, 30, said she’s ‘glad’ she didn’t have Instagram during her teenage years in a candid interview on the Crazy Sexy Food podcast.

Ferne went onto admit that she’s ‘felt pressure’ to stay in shape and maintain her physique ever since she gave birth to her daughter Sunday in 2017, but insists she’s always been ‘comfortable in her own skin.’

Like many stars, Ferne said she has experienced online trolling during her time in the spotlight, explaining: ‘I have always felt comfortable in my own skin, and I definitely feel the pressures, especially after giving birth, there was a lot of pressure to bounce back. 

‘You get influenced, it’s more influence than pressure, if I want to look or dress a certain way then I will. 

‘The world we are living in now with Instagram is scary, for me more than anything, when you press that little X on Instagram you get such a shock, you look like an ogre, and it’s just not good for your mental health. 

‘I’m so glad I didn’t grow up with social media, I used to love my MSN.’

Ferne went onto discuss the important of food in her family on the culinary-themed podcast, gushing she can’t wait to have friends round for dinner when lockdown restrictions are eased.

She continued: ‘Food was so important in my household, my parents were always in the kitchen and they were incredible hosts, we would always have people round for BBQs and out house was always busy and actually that has rubbed off on me and how I am now. 

‘When we are not in a lockdown, my friends are always at mine, and that’s really reflective of how I grew up, it was always centred around what we are having for dinner. 

‘When my parents would have their friends round it was planned around the cooking and there was a lot of thought put into it. 

‘Growing up I was always in the kitchen with my mum and dad, they are both great cooks, both super different styles, but I can always remember being in the kitchen, being super helpful, getting involved. 

‘With how my mum was, she always encouraged me and my sister to eat all different foods and that’s exactly how I am with Sunday.’

Ferne said as a mum she always insists her daughter Sunday, three, tries every single food, and doesn’t want her little girl to grow up as a fussy eater.

She continued: ‘My biggest pet hate is fussy eaters and I do my best to make Sunday try everything and not be a fussy eater, because most people say they don’t like something and I am always like, have you even tried it? 

‘Sometimes when it’s Sunday of course, it is a battle, like last night I just whipped up a pasta dish and she threw a tantrum because she didn’t like it and she ended up not eating, but I am not going to make her separate meals to the grownups or else she will never learn to eat different things. 

‘Since having a child and being a mother, I’ve become so aware of how much your parenting shapes your kid’s relationship with food in the future.’ 

Ferne recently waded into a tiff between Lucy Mecklenburgh and Danielle Armstrong, after Lucy slammed Danielle’s weight loss products on social media earlier in March. 

Lucy, 29, had earlier criticised influencers for promoting ‘restrictive diets’ to new mums and shared fans’ negative experience of using Herbalife Nutrition – a brand which both Ferne and Danielle, 32, endorse.

Taking to her special Fern Nutrition Instagram page, Ferne weighed in on the debate saying she can never understand why people feel the need to ‘damn others’ and insisted she has never been on an ‘extreme restricted diet’. 

Starting her post on her Instagram Story, Ferne shared Danielle’s video rant, where she hit back at Lucy, and penned a message to any of her ‘unnerved’ followers.

She said: ‘To all of my lovely customers and followers if you are feeling unnerved after watching Lucy Meck’s stories today then please watch @daniellearmstrong88 story. You will find some reassurance.’

Ferne went on to admit that she used to be ‘sceptical’ over Herbalife Nutrition but that she has ‘never felt better’ after it helped her to lose her baby weight after welcoming baby Sunday three years ago. 

The reality star said ‘it’s cool’ if Lucy felt she had to ‘blast’ Herbalife Nutrition, but that she will never understand why people feel the need to ‘damn others’.

Ferne penned alongside a picture of herself in lilac gym gear: ‘Right my darlings, Lucy Meck blasted Herbalife on her Story today, which is cool if that is what she felt that she had to do, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. 

‘But I’ve never understood why people feel the need to damn others. People have a choice, people have a choice to consume Herbalife products or not. To subscribe to Lucy’s fitness website or not.’ 

She continued: ‘Pre-Herbalife I was the biggest sceptic. Pre-Herbalife I was also never in the best shape (never unfit just didn’t have any definition).

‘I was a Herbalife sceptic and it wasn’t until I tried the products that I converted. I have NEVER felt that I have been on an “extreme restricted diet”, as Lucy put it. In fact, after consuming the products, I had never felt better.’

Danielle had previously defended her promotion of Herbalife nutrition after Lucy had earlier slammed influencers for promoting ‘restrictive diets’ to new mums.

A representative for Lucy had previously told MailOnline: ‘Lucy’s comments never mentioned Danielle Armstrong, Herbalife or Danielle’s job with the company.’
