Addison Rae and Jimmy Fallon slammed after performing TikTok dances and failing to credit the Black creators behind the routines

Addison Rae and Jimmy Fallon faced the wrath of Twitter after they performed popular TikTok dances but failed to credit the Black creators behind the routines.

Rae appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday to perform an array of popular dances on the platform, including Savage Love, Corvette Corvette, and Laffy Taffy.

Rae performed the majority of the dances on her own as Fallon stood behind, holding up cue cards identifying the dances she was performing.

However, Twitter users took issue with the fact that none of the choreographers – the majority of whom are Black – were acknowledged.

Bone to pick: Addison Rae and Jimmy Fallon faced the wrath of Twitter after they performed a number of TikTok dances, but failed to credit the Black choreographers behind the routines

‘This is a miss @jimmyfallon. Let’s give credit to the black creators……’ tweeted The View star Sunny Hostin.

‘I’m literally screaming,’ tweeted @leftistexe, who posted video comparing Addison’s dance to the original.

‘The fact they have no idea how offensive this is, is sickening. This is systemic racism at its finest. This white women is benefiting from a broken system & was highlighted on national TV, while the choreographers & actual artists that made the songs weren’t even mentioned smh,’ tweeted @WhosTYE.

‘Setting aside the questions of ownership, just look at this video. It’s so miserable. Broken, exhausted culture,’ tweeted @willystaley.

‘I’ve seen all of these dances done better by their originators. Part of the problem with discussing “tik tok dancing” imo is that a lot of young Black kids add a rhythm to it that you either just have or you don’t. See: Sean Bankhead’s UP choreo which interpolates some trends,’ tweeted @_ShamGod.

‘So you invite a white girl to do these dances instead of the creators. Cool. Remember all the ally talk you were talking about? It starts with this type of stuff. DO BETTER,’ tweeted @itsviviankaye.

The dances performed by Rae were Do It Again, choreographed by @noahschnapp, Savage Love choreographed by @jasonderulo, Corvette Corvette choreographed by @yvnggprince, Laffy Taffy choreographed by @flyboyfu, Savage choreographed by @keke.janjah, Blinding Lights choreographed by @macdaddyz, Up choreographed by @theeemyanicole, and Fergalicious choreographed by @thegilberttwins.

Rae danced by herself for most of the skit, but Fallon joined her for the final dance, Fergalicious.

Rae addressed the backlash in an interview with TMZ, explaining it would have been difficult to name the choreographers during the show but still had ‘support’ for them.

‘It’s kind of hard to credit during the show, but they all know I love them so much, and I support all of them so much. And hopefully one day we can meet up and dance together,’ she told the site.
