Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn attend an AFL game in Australia

Their life changed when they welcomed their daughter, Lyra Antarctica, in August.

And Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn took a break from their parental responsibilities on Saturday as they attended the AFL 2021 Round 2 match in Australia. 

The singer, 30, and his wife, 28, sat in an executive booth as they caught up with friends and observed the game between St Kilda Saints and Melbourne Demons.

St Kilda and Melbourne collided in the first ever Spud’s Game at Marvel Stadium on Saturday evening. Ed was seen rocking a red and white sports scarf and glasses while his partner cut a casual figure in a leather jacket. 

Cherry swept her blonde tresses back in a chic bun as she chatted with Ed who tucked into some food during the game.  

It comes after Ed and his young family were reportedly close to being caught up in the flood emergency in NSW this week, shortly before his moving performance at Michael Gudinski’s state memorial.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald‘s Private Sydney, the couple and their seven-month-old daughter were staying in the Hawkesbury region of Sydney for two weeks of mandatory quarantine, when disaster struck. 

The publications reported that the Ed ‘made a narrow escape from rising floodwaters’ in the area. 

They said on Tuesday that the family left the property – that even had its own lake – on the ‘last road’ out of town that was not shut because of the flood waters. 

It was also where the A-Team hitmaker wrote the song Visiting Hours – a detail he later revealed before performing it at Michael Gudinski’s memorial service. 

They reportedly reached Sydney airport and were then seen arriving on a private jet into Melbourne, just in time for Michael’s state memorial on Wednesday.

Ed gave an emotional performance at Michael Gudinski’s state memorial at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena earlier this week. 

He sang his hit single Castle on the Hill – one of late music mogul’s favourites – and later broke down in tears as he performed a new song, Visiting Hours, which is about his daughter Lyra. 

Ed was visibly emotional and at one point and had to stop singing, before saying ‘sorry’ and returning to the microphone.

He told the audience beforehand: ‘I never get this nervous, I’m really f**king nervous. So apologies if I mess up the lyrics or anything.’

Ed explained he penned the song during his mandatory quarantine.

He said: ‘I know it’s a difficult thing to get into this country and I don’t take it for granted for all the hard work getting me here and I really, really just appreciated the opportunity to get here.

‘In lockdown I was able to have a guitar for quarantine I always find the best way to process stuff is to write songs, be it good news, bad news and here’s a song I finished last week.’

Visiting Hours is about Ed’s late grandfather Bill, who died in 2013, and how he would like to ask him for advice on raising his own child, Lyra Antarctica.

He also shared the stage with Kylie Minogue – whose music career was launched by Michael – to do a duet of her songs All The Lovers and The Loco-motion.
