The Chase’s Mark Labbett says he was advised not to have a gastric band as he reveals he has dropped FIVE trouser sizes after 10st weight loss

The Chase’s Mark Labbett spoke about his incredible ten stone weight loss on Loose Women on Friday.

The ITV gameshow genius, 55, nicknamed ‘The Beast’, said he has dropped a staggering five trouser sizes by cutting down on sugar and carbs.

Mark said he was advised by a friend not to have a gastric band because of how he gets his calories from ‘sugar’, which is hard to digest and credited his four-year-old ‘hyperactive’ son for his weight loss.

Of why he chose not to have surgery, Mark said: ‘I’m not a drinker but sugar has always been my downfall. A good friend of mine who had the gastric band said it won’t do any good for me as I get all my calories by sugar, and it’s too easy to digest.’

He added: ‘I still have sugar but an awful lot less. I should have less still.’

Speaking about his transformation, Mark told the panel: ‘I am gradually dropping Xs off my size. I’ve gone from 5XL to 4XL and it looks like the next time I go shopping I’ll be able to squeeze into XL underpants.

‘I’ve lost 10 stone. I was 29 stone when I was a full time teacher in 2003 and I was in danger of high blood pressure.

‘I’ve been around 26 stone up until lockdown, and then a few things happened quite nicely and came together and started losing weight.’

He continued: ‘The principle thing is running after a hyperactive toddler when nurseries have been shut.

‘I’m sure every woman knows this, how do you keep up with them? I found at the end of the evening instead of going to the fridge for late night snacking, all I could do was collapse on the bed.’

The Chase star added how ‘weight fell off’ when he suffered Covid-like symptoms a year ago.

He said: ‘I’ve been lucky in that a year ago I had suspected Covid, I lost my sense of taste and I didn’t want to eat in these two weeks.

‘Being a big guy like myself the weight falls off now. I don’t feel like eating as much so I eat less and lose more weight

During the interview, Mark also touched upon his love life.

In August last year, Mark revealed he’d split from his wife Katie after seven years of marriage so she could be free to date her lover, after their plans to have an open marriage failed to work.

It was revealed at the time Katie, who works as a nurse, had been seeing her senior design engineer lover Scott Bate, 30, for 18 months.

He said: ‘Well let me put it this way I don’t think it’s possible to do any kind of dating while in lockdown, let’s say I’m married to my work.  My priority is on my son.’
